At Mowlem and Co. we find, the most successful projects are always those built on strong relationships, shared values and a genuine passion for great design. Our latest project Kingham is a perfect example, marking another rewarding collaboration with the talented team at Hamilford Design.

Over the years, we have had the pleasure of working alongside Manuela Hamilford and her studio on a number of exceptional homes. Their thoughtful, highly personalised approach to interior design complements our own commitment to creating bespoke kitchens that are tailored entirely to the way our clients live. Together, we share a belief that beautiful spaces should feel effortless, timeless and deeply connected to their surroundings.

Set within the heart of the Cotswolds, the Kingham project offered an opportunity to create a kitchen that balances a refined modern character with family living. The brief called for a space that would become the natural heart of the home, somewhere for cooking, gathering, entertaining and everyday life.

From the outset, the design was inspired by the property’s architecture and its rural setting. Rather than imposing a statement kitchen onto the space, the intention was to create something that felt as though it had always belonged there. A carefully considered palette of natural materials, subtle textures and muted tones helps the kitchen sit comfortably within the home while bringing warmth, interest and depth to the interior.

Central to the design is a beautifully proportioned island that acts as both a practical workspace and a social hub. Providing generous preparation space while encouraging conversation and connection, the island anchors the room and creates a natural flow between cooking, dining and entertaining. Thoughtful storage solutions have been seamlessly integrated throughout, ensuring the kitchen remains uncluttered and functional without compromising on aesthetics.

Designed to be elegant yet understated, every piece of cabinetry is carefully considered and enhanced by unique details, such as the striking bronze-effect feature on the central hood. Bespoke joinery ensures a tailored approach that maximises both storage and usability, while refined craftsmanship is evident in every element from the balanced proportions of the doors to the precision of the finishing touches. The result is a Mowlem and Co. kitchen that is calm, balanced, and highly individual.

Natural light also played an important role in shaping the design. Throughout the day, changing light conditions bring different qualities to the materials and finishes, creating a space that feels dynamic yet serene. The combination of tactile surfaces, carefully selected hardware and handcrafted cabinetry adds layers of interest and character without overwhelming the room.

As with all Mowlem and Co. kitchens, functionality was just as important as appearance. Every aspect of the layout was carefully planned to support modern living, ensuring the space works intuitively for its owners while retaining a sense of elegance and permanence. It is this balance between beauty and practicality that lies at the heart of our design philosophy.

Working alongside Hamilford Design throughout the project was a truly collaborative process. Their ability to create interiors that feel both sophisticated and welcoming provided a strong creative foundation, while our team focused on bringing those ideas to life through exceptional craftsmanship and bespoke manufacturing. The close relationship between designer and maker allowed every detail to be refined and resolved, resulting in a kitchen that feels cohesive from every angle.

Projects such as Kingham demonstrate the value of collaboration. By combining Hamilford Design’s distinctive interior vision with Mowlem and Co.’s expertise in bespoke cabinetry, we were able to create a kitchen that is not only beautiful but perfectly suited to the home and the family who live there.
