What is your role and how long have you worked at Mowlem and Co.?
My title at Mowlem is Senior Project Coordinator. I have worked at Mowlem and Co. for 12 years now and loved every minute, not quite sure where the time’s gone!
What does your typical day to day look like?
A typical day is super busy as there’s always lots to do; my job involves everything from working on designs and costings, to meetings with clients, going through all the finer details of a design. A big part of my role is project management, which involves organising trades such as fitters and painters and going through details on and off site to ensure every job runs smoothly. Hopefully taking away all the stress from our clients.
What is the best part of your job?
Working on a new design! Each project is so different and completely unique, and the early stages are often the most exciting.
What has been one of your favourite project/s you have worked on and why?
We recently completed a large project where we fitted joinery throughout the whole house. Working closely with both architects and interior designers, we had lots of design meetings to ensure every aspect was considered ahead of production. We were also involved with regular site meetings as part of the wider team. It was a huge learning curve and a great project to be involved with.
In your opinion what sets Mowlem and Co. apart from our competitors?
I would say there are two key points; the quality of the furniture we produce and the design service that we offer. Having our own factory means we have full control of the product and means we aren’t restricted. We are all perfectionists at Mowlem and strive to deliver the best product out there. We also have a similar approach to our design service. We believe in looking at how the space functions as a whole and constantly push boundaries to ensure the end result exceeds our clients’ expectations.
If you were building your own dream kitchen, what would you include in the design?
In terms of the style, I’ve always loved the classic hand painted shaker, incorporating open shelving, striking stone and brass handles to give it a timeless look. I’m also loving seeing more natural oak being incorporated into designs; I think it adds such warmth to the space so it’s definitely something I would mix with the hand painted finish.
What advice would you give to someone starting a new project this year?
Do your research! Platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram are great places to start looking for inspiration. Find out what you do and don’t like, try and save imagery of the styles you prefer, including things like colours and finishes, it will just make the process easier and hopefully more enjoyable.
What are your trend predictions for 2025?
We’ve recently completed a few projects incorporating a slim shaker door style, it’s a great contemporary take on the classic shaker look and I think it will be popular this year. We are also seeing warmer tones and textures coming through in terms of the palette which is nice to see.
How do you spend your time outside the office?
Time outside of the office is spent with family and friends. We have a busy household with two children and a cheeky young dog called Hendrix so time for myself is few and far between! When I do get some me time I enjoy yoga and reformer Pilates. I’m also a keen gardener and love pottering outside.
