For over thirty years, we have been dedicated to the art of British kitchen design ~ creating bespoke spaces defined by craftsmanship, restraint, and a quiet sense of luxury. Every Mowlem and Co. project is shaped by hand and guided by a philosophy of timeless design. Around six years ago, we began to notice a growing desire among our clients and collaborators, architects and designers, who admired our craftsmanship but were looking for something more flexible. They wanted the quality of Mowlem, but with the freedom to manage their own project.
That idea became Kin by Mowlem ~ our sister brand offering supply-only, handcrafted kitchen cabinetry built in the same workshop, by the same skilled makers, to the same high standards. Though Kin has been quietly established for over 5 years, many design lovers are only now discovering it ~ a hidden gem that captures the essence of Mowlem’s craftsmanship in a more accessible way.

Crafted, Not Compromised.
In essence, Kin is Mowlem just pared back. Kin By Mowlem was born out of a simple belief: that great design and craftsmanship should be adaptable. Every Kin cabinet is handmade in our North East workshop using traditional joinery and premium materials, just as we do for our bespoke kitchens. The difference lies in the approach. Rather than providing a fully managed, end-to-end design service, Kin focuses purely on the cabinetry, ready for clients to specify, finish, and install in their own way. It’s an ideal solution for projects that call for design-led quality but with more flexibility, whether that’s a self-build, a designer-led renovation, or a home where clients prefer to take a hands-on role.
“We were doing such an extensive renovation on a 1950’s post-war property and because of the extent of the works couldn’t stretch the budget to a fully bespoke kitchen, so I was thrilled to discover the Kin By Mowlem range” explains Charlotte Prenellle, Kin By Mowlem client “beautiful hand built cabinetry that is made to order in modules. I chose a classic contemporary shaker style design that would create a modern look but still remain timeless.”

The Kin Collections.
Each Kin By Mowlem collection embodies the same design philosophy that has guided Mowlem & Co from the beginning, a balance of timeless form, fine proportion, and thoughtful simplicity. Each range is made to order in standard modular sizes, allowing us to maintain quality while offering efficiency and accessibility.
KR1 – our classic framed shaker style, offering timeless appeal and enduring elegance.
KR2 – a frameless, contemporary design that feels architectural and understated.
KR3 – a refined hybrid, combining traditional structure with clean, modern lines.
Beyond style, the Kin collections are designed with versatility in mind. The modular approach allows for easy adaptation to a wide variety of spaces, from compact urban kitchens to larger family homes while still maintaining the precision and quality that define Mowlem & Co. clients and designers can combine units across ranges, adjust layouts, and specify finishes, hardware, and worktops to suit their individual vision. This flexibility ensures that each kitchen feels bespoke, even within the modular framework, making Kin an ideal choice for projects where practicality and design integrity must coexist.

Why Design Professionals Choose Kin.
Architects, interior designers, and developers value Kin by Mowlem for its combination of craftsmanship, flexibility, and efficiency. Unlike fully bespoke kitchens, Kin provides hand-crafted, modular cabinetry that can be tailored to a variety of spaces, allowing precise layouts and design cohesion without compromising quality. The primed units give designers and developers control over finishes, hardware, and worktops, making it easy to coordinate with the wider interior scheme. By offering the same materials and build standards as Mowlem & Co, Kin delivers the essence of luxury craftsmanship while simplifying specification, planning, and installation, ideal for high-end renovations, self-builds, multi-site projects, or developments where consistency and quality across multiple units is essential.
“When we created Kin by Mowlem,” says Founder, Gary Mowlem, “we wanted to distil the heart of what makes a kitchen special the craftsmanship, the feel of real wood, the precision of joints — but without dictating everything. It’s about giving people control: you choose the hardware, the finish, your worktops, the layout, and we supply you with a workshop-crafted foundation.”

Two Brands, One Standard.
Where Mowlem & Co. continues to offer an entirely bespoke, end-to-end experience, Kin invites collaboration. It’s designed for those who want to be involved: the self-builder refining every element, the designer coordinating multiple trades, or the homeowner who already has a vision and simply needs cabinetry worthy of it. In that sense, Kin isn’t a lesser version of Mowlem. It’s a parallel offering, a sibling, as its name suggests that shares the same DNA and is united by the hand-crafted foundation.
