The people behind Chelsea.

We moved into our newly renovated King’s Road studio back in the spring, and it felt like the right time to reintroduce the team behind it.

Rudi, Emma, James and Callum each bring their own perspective to the studio, with a shared understanding of what makes a space work, from the broader architectural decisions to the finer points of a scheme.

It’s this depth of knowledge, paired with an understanding of both craftsmanship and how people live, that shapes the work coming out of Chelsea.

And, perhaps most importantly, they’re a brilliant team to have on your side when a project really matters.

“The details are not the details. They make the design.” ~ Charles Eames

It’s often the quieter details that make the difference. Here, the proportions of the joinery follow the architecture of the room, while the subtle warmth of the finish adds a little depth to the pared-back scheme. The cupboards below keep everything neatly tucked away, leaving the open shelving to do what it does best.

Nothing feels overdone. It’s simply about getting the details and the design right, and letting the joinery do the rest.

A hideaway barn, set in the wild beauty of the English countryside and just steps from a peaceful lake. It really doesn’t get much better than that.

And this beautiful barn, of course has a bespoke Mowlem kitchen to match, full of warmth, character and thoughtful detail. One of those places that makes you want to stay a little longer.

Whether it’s a characterful barn in the countryside or a contemporary house in the city, the best spaces are shaped around the architecture they sit within.

Different setting. Same attention to detail.

A closer look at our new Chelsea studio.

Our new space has been home to Mowlem and Co. now since spring. As many of you may know, we’ve only moved two doors down. Staying on the King’s Road was always important to us, and this new space gives us a more considered layout for the way we work, meet and design.

Designed as a working studio rather than a traditional showroom, it’s somewhere to explore materials, finishes and details in person, and to spend time discussing the exciting possibilities for your own project.

If you’re in Chelsea, do stop by. Link in bio to our locations. 🔗

The best Sunday opening, should be at home.

For those who appreciate a little organisation. And knowing exactly where the good coffee is. ☕️

The Mowlem Difference.

The beauty of an exceptional space is making something complex feel completely effortless. The balance of materials, the intricate detailing in the veneering and the way the stone sits alongside the cabinetry. Every element considered, nothing ever, by chance.

It’s the hours of thought, skill and craftsmanship behind the scenes that make the finished space feel so natural. Because the best design isn’t about showing how much work has gone into it. It’s about making you wonder how it could ever have been done differently.

A lovely corner of a Mowlem and Co. kitchen in a beautiful Cheshire home, with one of those little details that makes everyday life just that bit easier.

On first glance, it’s a beautiful piece of joinery. Look a little closer and there’s more to it. Fluted glass, a considered finish and a pantry tucked neatly behind the door, keeping everything close at hand without interrupting the room.

It’s the sort of detail we love exploring in the design process.

We’ll never tire of a kitchen in a rich, deep colour. There’s something about darker cabinetry that brings character and a sense of permanence to a space, whether it’s a period home or something altogether more contemporary.

This kitchen, from our Cheshire project, was hand painted in deep navy, with warm brass hardware and a beautiful stone worktop. We truly believe if a colour speaks to you, go with it. After all, your home is yours to make your own.

Hawkesbury. And then there’s the detail. 🦌

That kind of special place you’d be in no hurry to leave. Each part in this unique home has its own character, yet the house feels entirely cohesive, wonderfully characterful and richly considered at every turn.

Our Chelsea studio team worked alongside @hamilford_design to create the bespoke kitchen. So we were especially delighted to see Hamilford taking home a much coveted @designetal award for the project. A much-deserved achievement and, as always, a privilege to be part of.

We’ve just published the full story in our journal, exploring the design thinking and craftsmanship behind the project.

Take a look around, then head to the link in bio to read more. 🔗

Hawkesbury. There’s more to discover. 🦌

One barn. One very particular brief. One kitchen we couldn’t wait to see come together.

Created by us for @hamilford_design The Barn, Hawkesbury is perhaps best experienced rather than explained.

Hawkesbury. A first look.

There’s something incredibly emotive about a barn, the sense of scale, the rawness of the materials and the way it organically draws people together.

Created for @hamilford_design The Barn, our Hawkesbury bespoke kitchen is a study in considered design. A richly layered scheme of antique copper metal, reclaimed timber, deep, textured cabinetry, striking veined stone and a series of finer details.

The design is, however, deliberately confident, allowing the materials and craftsmanship to speak for themselves.

More of Hawkesbury to come. 🦌

For those who take a quiet pleasure in having everything in its place (and who doesn’t?).

A beautifully designed cupboard does rather make being organised feel like less of a chore. And what a joy to have all those everyday jobs contained within one dedicated space.

Here, the utility room has been designed around the everyday, generous cupboards for the things we all need, room for laundry and linens and plenty of space to keep the necessities out of sight.

There’s something about a kitchen that draws everyone in. Someone cooking, someone opening a bottle, children coming in for something they’ve forgotten, and before you know it, everyone is gathered around the island.

Perhaps that’s the real joy of a kitchen. It’s not just the room you cook in, it’s where people naturally end up. The chatting, the cooking, the company, and all the lovely bits in between.

We’ve been thinking a little more about this in our latest stories post, The Art of Gathering, have a read over on our website.

Beautifully considered. Completely individual.

The kind of room you don’t forget, and we love sharing with you. Marble to be admired, cabinetry that belongs effortlessly within the architecture, and a space that feels as inviting as it is beautiful, made to be enjoyed.

Thank you @hunterandbellestudio for trusting us with this incredible project and @darrenchung74 for the perfect capture. 📸

That lovely little pause before September begins…

A bank holiday weekend stretching out ahead of us, with nowhere much to be and plenty of time to enjoy home. Muddy walks, a Sunday roast bubbling away in the Aga, a few quiet hours with a book, or perhaps finally giving the house that September reset you’ve been meaning to get around to.

Whatever your long weekend looks like, we hope it’s relaxing and full of the good stuff.

Somewhere along the way, the details become the whole point.

Shelving that fits the room rather than simply filling a wall. Joinery made around the way you live, with every proportion, junction and finish considered.

Our furniture and joinery is made to last, both in how it’s built and how it feels in a home years from now.

Because when you care about your home, you tend to care about the corners others might overlook, too.

Is there anything more satisfying than a beautifully organised pantry? We think not.

Whether you like everything neatly tucked away, a freestanding larder or walk-in, prefer your shelves on show, or have a very particular way of storing things (we all do), good storage makes a kitchen work so much harder.

And it doesn’t have to look purely practical. We design every detail around the way you live, the space you have and your unique style. It’s also genuinely one of our favourite spaces to design.

The result? Storage that feels like it was always meant to be there. And, dare we say, a little bit addictive to keep tidy.

Strong stone. Serious detail.

The starting point here was the marble, dramatic, directional, and oh so beautiful. From there, everything else was deliberately softened: ivory cabinetry, curved seating, aged brass and that beautiful sculptural glass light overhead.

The result is layered, considered, and elegant, with each element bringing something different to the space.

A huge thank you to our collaborators, Interior Design @hunterandbellestudio and the beautiful photography @darrenchung74

Our Soho kitchen in Jesmond is a real favourite with everyone who sees it.

It’s the combination of elements that makes this one so good. Warm oak cabinetry with those lovely integrated handles, exposed brick and a seriously beautiful green marble island, finished with brick-red tiles and tonal seating.

There’s an industrial feel to it, but the oak and softer details keep it feeling warm and inviting. Nothing feels overworked, just a really good balance of materials, colour and texture.

A few of our favourite details from Soho, all in one place.

And if you’re in Jesmond, come and see us at the showroom. We’re open weekdays and Saturday by appointment, and there’s always someone on hand for a coffee and a chat.

Meet just some of the people behind Mowlem and Co.

The finished space is only a part of the story. Behind every project is a team of designers, makers and creatives, bringing together ideas, experience and a rather obsessive eye for detail.

From the early conversations and considered design decisions, to the skilled hands in our workshop and the people bringing everything together on site, there’s a lot of expertise behind what you see.

And because everyone brings their own perspective, no two projects quite take the same path. That mix of talent, personality and craftsmanship is a big part of what makes Mowlem and Co. what it is.
