The Chelsea Design Quarter Summer Street Party provided the perfect opportunity to celebrate the opening of our new Chelsea studio and welcome clients, colleagues, collaborators and friends into our new home on the King’s Road. After months of planning, designing and preparing the space, it was incredibly rewarding to finally throw open the doors and share it with the people who have been part of our journey. What better occasion than the annual CDQ Street Party to do just that?
Earlier in the day, the weather had us all wondering whether a British summer street party was perhaps a triumph of optimism over experience. Thankfully, as guests began to arrive, the skies cleared, the atmosphere lifted and the evening became exactly the kind of celebration we had hoped for.
From the moment the first cocktails were poured, the studio was filled with conversation, laughter and a wonderful sense of energy. Our Mowlem and Co. clients and colleagues gathered to catch up and enjoy an evening away from project deadlines and drawing boards. One of the real pleasures of being part of the Chelsea Design Quarter is the sense of community that exists across the neighbourhood, and the street party is always a fantastic reminder of that.
Guests enjoyed expertly crafted cocktails by the brilliant Tonic N Remedy and a delicious selection of canapés from the talented Saisons were served throughout the evening, while taking the opportunity to explore our new studio. We wanted the space to feel welcoming, relaxed and celebratory, and thanks to some beautiful styling it certainly rose to the occasion. Colourful bunting, seasonal flowers and thoughtfully arranged planting brought a touch of summer charm, creating the perfect backdrop for the festivities.
One of the highlights of the evening was undoubtedly the extraordinary living statue performance by The Statue People. Equal parts art, theatre and conversation starter, he captivated guests throughout the night and quickly became one of the most photographed moments of the event. Alongside the music, flowers and flowing cocktails, it helped create an atmosphere that felt both elegant and playful.
As daylight faded and the evening settled in, guests spilled out onto the King’s Road, mingling with fellow members of the Chelsea Design Quarter and enjoying everything the event has become known for. There was a genuine sense of celebration throughout the neighbourhood, with showrooms, studios and design businesses opening their doors and bringing the community together.
For us, however, the evening was about far more than launching a new King’s Road studio. It was an opportunity to celebrate the relationships that sit at the heart of what we do. We were delighted to spend time with clients who have trusted us with their homes, collaborators who help bring our projects to life, suppliers and makers whose craftsmanship inspires us, and friends who have supported us every step of the way. Looking around the room, seeing so many familiar faces together in one place, was a wonderful reminder of how fortunate we are to be part of such a talented and supportive design community.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so memorable. We are thrilled to begin this next chapter in our new Chelsea studio and look forward to welcoming many more visitors through our doors in the months and years ahead. Here’s to new beginnings, great company and summer evenings that prove worth waiting for, even when the British weather likes to keep us guessing.
